What We Do

We are the second level of appeal for property assessments

What we do

The Board receives appeals on assessments for all types of properties from single family dwellings to farms to major industry.

Typical issues deal with:

  • Is the property assessed at actual (market) value?
  • Is the property correctly classified?
  • Does the property qualify for a tax exemption?

THE DEADLINE TO APPEAL TO THE BOARD IS APRIL 30, 2024. You can file your appeal online: Submit an Appeal.

Our objective is to assist you in resolving your appeal, if possible, without the need for a hearing. Settling an appeal by mutual agreement is less expensive and less time consuming for you, BC Assessment and the Board. If the appeal is not settled, one or more Board members will make a decision and issue a written decision.

The Board is committed to the fair and efficient resolution of appeals complying with the principles of natural justice.  For more information see the Fairness and Service Code for Participants at the Board.

Board members are appointed by the Provincial Government and are independent from BC Assessment (who created the assessment), the Property Assessment Review Panels (the first level of appeal) and the Government. You can see our Board members and their backgrounds.

See the Appeal Guides which will assist you with all the stages of your appeal.
